A Brief History
In modern days of entertainment, people do not have much time to watch television sitting in their drawing rooms. So many web-based portals have come up with their services like online news, movies, etc. The latest addition is these portals are the Online TV series where you can see serial dramas as per your convenience of time. Lucifer is one of those period dramas that are telecast on television channels like FOX.
Lucifer is based on the American comic character of DC comics which has been created by Mike Dringenberg, Neil Gaiman and Sam Kieth. The main book series from where it is derived is ‘The Sandman’ by Neil Gaiman. The producers of this series are the most popular names of Hollywood like the Warner Bros, (Television), Jerry Bruckheimer Television and most importantly DC Entertainment. This super hit comic series was developed by the famous Tom Kapinos.

Story in Short
As per the name of the series, the story is of Lucifer Morningstar, who is a devil and is the ruler of Hell. He is the son of God and is bored of his life and so he decides to abandon Hell for Los Angeles and starts his own business of night club over there. Later in this series, he got an appointment as a consultant to the police department of Los Angeles and finds himself engaged in the inquiry of a murder case.
Lucifer Season 1 Episode 1 was telecasted on 25th January 2016 and it started with a great hype among the viewers but the expectations were not met accordingly. Though the acting of Tom Ellis was praised by the eminent critics, still the 1st session ended up with a lower TRP. Due to the hype in the viewers, the TV series started its journey with high viewership, but later on, the viewer rating started decreasing day by day. Despite all these calamities, FOX continued to telecast this TV series for 3 seasons at a stretch but at last, they gave up on the program. FOX canceled the telecast of Lucifer on May 11, 2018.
FOX took the decision to telecast the 2nd season of Lucifer in April 2016 and the telecast started from September 2016. In October of the same year, FOX announced that they have got all the episodes of the 2nd season. On October 2 of 2017, the third season of the television series was premiered and it ended on May 28 of 2018. As FOX canceled the telecast of Lucifer after its 3rd season, Netflix, another web series site grabbed it with joy and announced to telecast the 4th and 5th season of this series.
Some Interesting Facts about the Series
All the TV series broadcast by the television channels mainly run on the viewership rating of the viewers. Lucifer was first shown in the United States by the FOX media. The timing of the telecast matters the most as the 1st two seasons were broadcast from 9 pm on Monday. But keeping the viewership rating and TRP rating on the mind, the third season was telecasted at 8 pm on the same day. The streaming rights of this TV show were in the hands of HULU and it decided to move on to Netflix in December 2018 after the 3rd season.
The first two seasons were 13 and 18 episodes respectively. The number of viewers was 7.16 million when the Lucifer series started its journey on January 25th 2016. But it ended up with almost half of its viewers count when the 1st season aired for the last time. No improvement was seen during the second season also as it started running with 4.36 million viewers and ended up with 3.31 million viewers. For the first season the rank of this TV series was 62 among the dramas broadcast in the United States. Later it came down to 85 for the 2nd season. The conditions degraded most when the 3rd episode came in to air. 3.92 million viewers started watching the series but it also ended up with a decreased number of 2.42 million viewers with a ranking of 119 in the United Television ranking.
Words from the Critics
Like a pilot project, the pilot episode of the TV series Lucifer was screened at a Comic-Con at San Diego in 2015 which was praised immensely by the critics. They especially mentioned the performance of the lead actor Tom Ellis as Lucifer. The first season of this TV series got some mixed reviews from the critics where various websites of review aggregators told that more than half of the reviewers gave positive remarks about the series. Instead of the 1st season the critics were much happier with the 2nd and 3rd season where the TV series got almost 8 out of 10.
FOX Canceled the Telecast after the 3rd Season
The most obvious reason that came in front about canceling the TV series of Lucifer was the falling viewership and the ranking of the series. A huge outcry of the fans urged to save the series. The viewers got impressed with the charming outlook of the lead character. The most attractive part of these series of episodes came when the co-detective came to know about the DEVIL part of Lucifer and saw his devil face. The fans of this series all over the world got enraged while FOX finally canceled the streaming of the TV series based on a supernatural drama. Fox finally admitted that the viewership of their series was becoming narrower day by day and it was annoying for them.
Netflix Revived the TV Series from the 4th Season
All the fans of the TV series Lucifer got back their breath when they came to know that Netflix is going to telecast the next two seasons of this period supernatural drama. Netflix came into the ground at the end moment and rescued the series from cancellation. The web series channel declared that Lucifer was to be revived from cancellation as the series got really resonated with audiences of different parts of the world.
