On April 21, 2019, millions of Christian students across the United States of America will celebrate Easter. Given the holiday’s significance, many colleges and universities give students up to a week off of classes so students can spend time with their families. Whether Christians or not, millions of American students will also seize the opportunity from being free from classes to travel.
With so many wonderful destinations in the world, it is a shame not to use your student years to travel abroad. Nowadays, there are cheap airfares and accommodation options that make student travel an actual, viable option. In this list, you will find the best places to put on your travel bucket list. And since you can literally go there with a tiny, tiny budget, you should start planning your trip right now!

1. Rome
Do you love pasta or drink espresso often? If you do, why not visit the mother land of these wonderful pleasures? When in Rome, make sure to explore its culture, soak in its history, and try the delights of a tiramisu. This opportunity is excellent for you to see some of the best buildings in the world, such as the Sistine Chapel, the Pantheon, the Colosseum, and the Trevi Fountain. Rome is definitely a special location to visit for any Catholic students celebrating Easter!
If you book one of the affordable hostel accommodations near the center, you can see all of Rome’s amenities in one day, without having to use any transportation.
2. Prague
Prague is added to almost any European travel list online and yet, not many know that this is a destination you can visit on a low budget. With its unforgettable façade and the wonderful old town squares, this is the place in Europe where you can get the cheapest beer, relax in a very affordable hostel, and enjoy a perfect mix of party and history.
3. Paris
Have you tasted an actual Paris pastry? Or perhaps one of their popular macaroons? If you have not, book a cheap flight that will get you to Paris and start your journey across the Seine and the Pont des Arts.
It is no wonder why Paris is considered one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world! Just grab a good cheese, a bottle of wine, and make yourself a picnic why looking at the Eiffel Tower – all for free.
4. Budapest
You and your friends will sure enjoy a relaxing day in the thermal baths Szechenyi in Budapest after looking the sights of both Buda and Pest. Budapest is a relatively cheap city, so you can even afford to grab a couple of drinks in the Ruin Pubs before or after you stroll alongside the Danube to see its wonderful architecture.
5. London
Plenty of airlines nowadays offer free tickets to London. And while you might have the impression that this popular city is expensive, you can see it on a very low budget. Use one of their city bikes to get around and visit the wonderful Piccadilly Circus and the Buckingham Palace. Brick Lane is filled with affordable meal spots, while you can also do some shopping in the Portobello and Borough markets.
6. Ohrid
Europe is often seen as an expensive destination, but some of its countries are among the most affordable in the world. One of the most kept secrets in Europe is Macedonia, a small country filled with natural beauty. Ohrid is the town with the richest history of them all, plus the home of the popular Ohrid Lake, the deepest lake on the Balkans. At the same time, this is the cheapest place in terms of accommodation and meals.
7. Phuket
We have all seen those mesmerizing pictures of Thailand. Well, guess what? Now you can visit one of Thailand’s pearls on a low budget. Flights to Phuket are more affordable than ever and this destination has amazing rates to offer to its tourists. There is literally something for people of all budgets, and the nightlife is perfect for a student such as yourself!
8. Barcelona
Barcelona is one of the few cosmopolitan capital that is most visited by students and people on a low budget. With its popular football team, the grand music fountain, and the exceptional architecture, it is a dream destination for many. Do not let it remain a dream – go to Barcelona and see the shockingly beautiful Sagrada Familia, eat affordable paella at one of the many restaurants, and simply grasp the rich Spanish culture.
9. Krakow
The former capital of Poland us also known for the tasty traditional food such as pierogies, the friendly people, as well as the cheap accommodations. While you are there, do not miss out on the chance to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp.
10. Amsterdam
Most of the tourist in this amazing place cycle around the city, so why not join them? Amsterdam is filled with scenic bridges and canals, tilted buildings and a lively nightlife. Many students live here, which makes it a spot for people with all kinds of budgets. This makes ‘the Venice of the North’ a definite location to put on your bucket list.
11. Dublin
Have not you ever dreamed of having a beer at a classic Dublin pub? Many countries imitate these pubs and yet, not many know how affordable it can be to visit the actual destination. If you visit Dublin, you can find cheap accommodation and get around easily. After all, it is a rather small city, but definitely filled with things to do and see.
