    Digging Deeper

    On June 13, 1525, former Roman Catholic friar Martin Luther broke church rules and married Katharina von Bora, a nun.

    On June 13, 1893, President Grover Cleveland was only a few months into his second term when he went to his doctor to complain of soreness and a rough patch in his mouth.

    On June 13, 1944, during the Battle of Villers-Bocage, German tank ace Obersturmführer Michael Wittmann proved what could be accomplished by proper use of a superior weapon system when he directed his Tiger I tank against British armor (armour for you Brits), destroying an amazing 2 anti-tank guns, 15 armored personnel carriers, and 14 tanks!

    On June 13, 1956, Real Madrid defeated Reims 4–3 in the final of the 1955–56 European Cup at Parc des Princes, Paris.

    On June 13, 1966, the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of Miranda in Miranda v Arizona, creating the requirement for police to inform people of their rights before questioning.

    On June 13, 1990, Del Rey published a mass market paperback version of The Diamond Throne, the first book in The Elenium series of fantasy novels by David Eddings (1931–2009).

    On June 13, 1996, after a tense 81 day standoff with the FBI, a group of Americans in the area of Jordan, Montana that had declared themselves “sovereign citizens” not subject to the laws of the United States, finally surrendered.

    On June 13, 2010, country music singer and actor, as well as sausage impresario, Jimmy Dean, died at the age of 81 while watching television in his Virginia home.

    On June 13, 2014, the latest cinematic version of Godzilla is being released in China after having already been released throughout Europe and the Americas in May 2014.
