A Brief History

On September 26, 2017, we look back on the past week and marvel at just how much a jerk a human being can be.  Today we will briefly discuss a few of those people.  Who would you nominate?

Digging Deeper

The biggest jerk of the week is Emanuel Kidega Samson, a 25 year old body builder from the Sudan, who went to his former church, Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch, Tennessee and shot the place up, killing one person and injuring another seven people.  A brave usher, Robert Engle age 22, confronted the gunman and in the struggle the gunman managed to accidentally shoot himself.  Two of those injured are in critical condition, but Samson is not seriously injured.  Samson was stopped when the usher that confronted him returned to the usher’s car to retrieve a gun and held the murderer at gunpoint until police arrived.  Engle suffered head injuries from being pistol whipped by the gunman.  Disturbingly, Samson, who emigrated to the US as a child, was known to be suicidal, and had threatened to shoot himself, but no one contacted authorities to do anything about a gun owner threatening suicide!  Samson was armed with 2 handguns during the attack, and had an additional pistol and a rifle in his car.  The heavily muscled Samson (apropos name!) is a graduate of Motlow State Community College and considered himself a devout Christian.  Samson also posted a story about a White police officer allegedly telling a White woman that “We only kill Black people.”  Samson is Black and his victims were White.

Without taking sides on the NFL players versus President Trump regarding the taking of a knee or sitting down during the playing of the National Anthem, we do think it was terribly bad form for the Ravens and Jaguars players that knelt during the playing of our National Anthem prior to a football game being played in London, England on September 24th.  What is really nutso is these guys stood for the British National Anthem.  Apparently, the players do not realize it was the British that brought African slaves to America and started the slave trade.  The old axiom about “politics ends at the border” is just not adhered to anymore, and many recent politicians are also to blame.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, EPA Director Scott Pruitt, and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price have misused military and chartered private flights since taking office, instead of flying on commercial airlines with the rest of us peasants.  This waste of taxpayers’ money is ridiculous when President Trump was elected in large part to “Drain the Swamp.”  Well, Mr. President, either get these 3 clowns in line or tell them, “You’re fired!”  (Price has taken at least 24 chartered flights at taxpayer expense since May 2017!  Mnuchin’s misuse of government flights include using a military flight for his honeymoon!  Pruitt turned down an offer for a free ride with the Governor of Colorado and instead stuck taxpayers with a bill for a chartered flight.)

Of course we have to include Anthony Weiner, the former Congressman from New York that was sentenced to 21 months in prison for transferring obscene material to a minor, a single charge he pled guilty to in conjunction with a child pornography case brought against him dealing with sexting with a 15 year old girl.  Weiner had repeated episodes of sexting, ruining his career in politics and his marriage, and for the next nearly 2 years will have no opportunity to continue with his sexual obsession.

Question for students (and subscribers): Now it is your turn to tell us who else we should have included on this list in the comments section below this article.
