A Brief History
On December 30, 2024, we take a look back at the ones we lost this year, and instead of trying to amass a giant list of everyone and everything, we aim to keep this list limited to those of particular note, at least to us!
Digging Deeper
Former President Jimmy Carter, age 100, was a fine person who showed his true morals and values in the years since leaving the White House.
Baseballer Rickey Henderson, age 65, Major League Baseball’s all-time base stealer, was probably the greatest lead off batter of all time.
Richard Simmons, exercise and fitness guru, age 76, was actually named Milton Teagle Simmons.
Actress Shelley Duvall, age 75, brought us iconic roles as Wendy in The Shining and Olive Oyl in Popeye.
Actor Carl Weathers, age 76, is best known as Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies.
Chita Rivera, actress, dancer, and singer, age 91, is remembered as an all-time great of stage and screen and notable Latina American.
Actor James Earl Jones, age 93, owned perhaps the greatest voice in movie history.
Music impresario Quincy Jones, age 91, had produced some of the biggest albums and scored movies as well.
Finally, the alleged murderer and convicted felon, O. J. Simpson, age 76, unfortunately made us forget how great a football player he was due to his various controversies since the 1990s.
Question for students (and subscribers) to ponder: Which person who passed away in 2024 do you miss the most?
