On March 9, 1796, Napoleon Bonaparte, said to have more books written about him than any mortal man, married the love of his life, Joséphine de Beauharnais.
On March 9, 1831, King Louis Phillipe of France established the French Foreign Legion, a fighting force for France that has gone on to win fame and admiration for their fierceness, esprit d’ corps, bravery and honor.
On March 9, 1925, the British Royal Air Force began operations in South Waziristan against Mahfud tribesmen called Pink’s War, the first independent such operation by the RAF and to date the only operation named after an RAF commander.
On March 9, 1945, 324 B-29 bombers of the United States Army Air Force inflicted the deadliest and most destructive single bombing raid in history.
On March 9, 1959, the world of toys was taken by storm in New York City with the introduction of the Barbie Doll by toy manufacturer Mattel at the American International Toy Fair.
On March 9, 1961, the Soviet space agency launched Korabl-Sputnik 9, a space craft containing Ivan Ivanovich and his pets, into space and into low Earth orbit.
On March 9, 1982, Krononauts (or Chrononauts) held a meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, for any and all time travelers to meet for the purpose of discussing and demonstrating methods of time travel.
On March 9, 1987, Chrysler Corporation, then maker of Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth cars and trucks, announced the absorption of American Motors under the Chrysler banner.
On March 9, 2007, the American period action film titled 300 was released in both conventional and IMAX theaters in the United States of America.
On March 9, 2016, we included an article on “The Deadliest Bombing Raid of All Time,” when on March 9, 1945, the Japanese capital of Tokyo was bombed with high explosive and fire bombs killing perhaps 100,000 people and laying waste to one of the world’s largest cities.
