On April 16, 1457 BC, a battle was fought between the forces of the Egyptian Pharaoh and Canaanite states that chafed under Egyptian rule.
On April 16, 1881, Legend of the Old West and buddy of Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, fought his last gun fight in Dodge City, Kansas.
On April 16, 1910, Boston Arena opened for the first time, an indoor ice hockey arena that is still in operation, the oldest such building still operating.
On April 16, 1945, a Soviet submarine sunk a transport ship filled with civilians and wounded soldiers, one of the great tragedies in a war filled with great tragedies.
On April 16, 1947, the SS Grandcamp, a French freighter carrying 2,300 tons of ammonium nitrate blew up at the dock in Texas City, Texas, one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history.
On April 16, 1990, Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a Michigan physician later to gain the sobriquet, “Dr. Death,” assisted in his first physician assisted suicide when he assisted a 54 year old woman that had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in the act of taking her own life.
On April 16, 2007, a mentally ill college student conducted a planned slaughter of classmates and faculty members before finally taking his own life.
On April 16, 2018, the World continued to watch events in Syria unfold two days after the United States, the United Kingdom, and France bombed Syrian sites deemed part of their infrastructure required to produce and store chemical weapons in response to Syrian use of chlorine and sarin poison gases against Syrian rebels, killing dozens.
On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, supernatural horror film fans had their chance to be among the first in Cleveland, Ohio to see The Curse of La Llorona at 7:00 PM at Cinemark At Valley View & XD in Valley View, Ohio!
