A Brief History
On March 10, 2022, the latest film from The Daily Wire, The Hyperions, premiered for free on YouTube. A comic book superhero film, The Hyperions does not intend to compete with the gigantic, big budget productions, but manages to entertain rather well on its limited platform. The third in a series of films from podcast specialists The Daily Wire, The Hyperions is a different type of film than the first two offerings from The Daily Wire, the second of which, Shut In, premiered on February 10, 2022.
Digging Deeper
The previous film having been a horror/thriller type movie, The Hyperions branches off into the superhero genre with a bit of humor thrown in. Despite a certain amount of violence, the film does not devolve into gratuitous gore, sex, or foul language, the hallmark of The Daily Wire which desires to produce a more conservative form of motion picture that does not try to “social engineer” any “woke” agenda as evidenced by recent Hollywood trends. At the same time, there is none of the opposite, no attempt to sell a conservative agenda. Just plain old entertainment.
The film stars Cary Elwes as Professor Mandulbaum, creator of a technology that can turn ordinary people into superheroes with only a single superpower. The professor creates a team of superheroes, but a team that changes personnel over time as apparently such power is too intoxicating for permanent use. The main character is played by Penelope Mitchell, an Australian actress, as Vista, a former member of the superhero team that tries to steal the special item that formerly gave her superpower, making the film a sort of heist movie. (No further spoilers!)
The Hyoperions is not particularly flashy or extravagant, but it certainly does what it has to do to get its point across. Suitable for audiences of all ages, we found the film to be entertaining and refreshing, and we give it our recommendation! Enjoy!
