The Casino Industry in Canada Now and Then

    Caesars Windsor

    A Brief History

On July 29, 1998, Caesars Windsor opened in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.  It is one of four casinos in the Detroit–Windsor area.  Playing casino games is an activity that holds a timeless appeal.  Placing chips on the roulette table or getting 21 at blackjack is unlikely to ever lose its thrill. Yet, how have casinos changed in recent years?

There have been some big changes in this industry. The following are a few of the important advances that have taken place in the casino industry in Canada you should know about.

    Digging Deeper

    The Rise of Online Casinos

The most obvious change in recent years has been the incredible rise of online casinos. Gamblers in the past had to travel to a land casino in Canada or elsewhere to place their bets. It is now easy to play slots, roulette, baccarat, and other popular casino games on the internet without leaving home.

A quick look at a casino review site such as online-casinos-canada.ca shows us that there are now many different sites to choose from. Betway Casino, Casumo, Spin Palace Casino, and 888casino are a few of the top names that are mentioned for Canadian players.

The best online casinos allow players to choose from hundreds of games very easily. They also often have a live dealer section and many are optimised for use on a mobile device as well. All of this means that it is possible to play virtually anywhere at any time.

    The New Casino Games

Roulette can be traced back to France in the 17th century. Blackjack has been around for about the same amount of time. Baccarat has been played for even longer. These games are still the heart of any good casino; however, new casino games have also come along to add to the mixture. For instance, Caribbean stud poker and pai gow poker are a couple of relatively new variants. They first appeared towards the end of the 20th century.

Modern technology also allows game developers to produce a huge variety of new video slots, like Asgardian Stones from NetEnt. Many of these have exciting animated sequences and interesting features.

    New Players Have Been Attracted

Traditional casino hotspots such as Las Vegas, Macau, and Monte Carlo remain as popular as ever. So do Canada’s casinos in places like Niagara and Windsor. Yet, one of the biggest changes has been the way that new players who have never stepped inside a casino have been attracted.

Again, this is largely down to the growth of online gaming. The idea of walking into a casino may seem too intimidating for some people. For others the practical issues of arranging a trip to a casino may put them off the idea. This is why being able to play online has brought in new players.

The classic appeal of these casino games is as strong as it has ever been. Online casinos have just made it easier for people to find out what the experience is really like.

Question for students (and subscribers): Have you ever been to a casino in Canada?  Please let us know in the comments section below this article.
