This Just In!
Yesterday, we reminded our readers about mixed-martial artist Bigfoot Silva’s heavyweight main event versus former Ultimate Fighting heavyweight champion Frank Mir. Well, the results are in, and Mir has emerged triumphant!
On one hand, Mir’s victory essentially saved his career. Mir went into the bout on a four-fight losing streak, the longest in his career. On the other hand, the fight was a crushing disaster for Silva. Not only did Silva lose in his home country of Brazil, he succumbed to Mir’s punches in only one minute and forty seconds into the first round! Silva has not won a fight in over two years, having suffered three loses and one no contest in his past four bouts. Not surprisingly, the question is whether or not Silva should continue?
In his past four fights, he has tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone and suffered three devastating first-round knock outs via punches from elite heavyweights. A valid argument could be made that he did not lose to scrubs, but at the same time, getting knocked out by professional punchers multiple times in succession cannot be good for one’s brain. Silva is married and has two daughters, and we would hate to see him suffer any long-term, life-altering brain trauma from his profession. So, should he retire? Whether he wants to or not, should the Ultimate Fighting Championship release him? Should Silva fight for Bellator or the World Series of Fighting instead? And, of course, what’s next for Mir? Will a rubber match with former champion Brock Lesnar materialize? Please let us know what you think will and should happen in the comments below!
And just because…
