A Brief History
On Tuesday, February 17, 2015, according to Harmonix, two new songs will be made available as downloadable content (DLC) for video game Rock Band 3 on the Playstation 3. These songs will also be available on the Xbox 360 this week as well. They are the second batch of songs to be released in 2015, with the first batch having arrived in January.
Digging Deeper
The new songs are:
1. “Rise of the Fenix” (2012) by Tenacious D
“Rise of the Fenix” is from Tenacious D’s third studio album of the same name. The album reached number 1 on the US charts for both Comedy Album and Rock Album and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.
2. “Back to the Shack” (2014) by Weezer
“Back to the Shack” was the first single released from Weezer’s ninth studio album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End. The song reached number 1 on Billboard’s Canada Rock chart.

Would you like to see more novelty songs added, such as those listed in our earlier list and its sequel? What about more protest songs? Or do we need some sexier songs? I believe that Rockband needs to incorporate songs that have withstood the test of time and to stray from the modern ones. I’m talking about songs that are the work of artists like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, etc. Many artists like these are featured on RockBand, but there are some important songs missing that are some of the most iconic. I also would like to see more indie rock songs being featured.
I definitely believe there should be more rock band versions for those of different tastes. However, they need to go with the demographic as well. Look at what happened when they came out with DJ Hero. That lasted all of 20 minutes.
