A Brief History
On March 7, 2024, the 46th president of the United States of America, 81-year-old Joe Biden, a Democrat currently running for reelection, gave the 2024 State of the Union Address in the House Chamber at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. 42-year-old Senator Katie Britt of Alabama gave the Republican response.
Digging Deeper
To my students and subscribers who watched Biden’s speech and Britt’s response, I have the following questions:
- On a grading scale of F to A, with F meaning “failure,” a D being “below average,” a C being “average,” a B being “good,” and an A being “excellent,” what letter grade would you assign both to President Biden’s speech and also to Senator Britt’s response?
- Also, what do you think were the best and worst moments of both Biden’s speech and Britt’s response?
- Finally, do you think either Biden’s speech or Britt’s response will influence moderate, independent, or undecided voters in the November 2024 election?
Question for students (and subscribers): What State of the Union Address that you watched would you consider to be the greatest in modern American history? Please let us know in the comments section below this article.
