A Brief History
Today, March 8, 2023, I, Dr. Zar, wish all of my family, friends, colleagues, students, and subscribers who are women a Happy International Women’s Day!
Digging Deeper
Here are some notable women in 2023 (each of these women was born on a different continent from the others on this list):
- J. K. Rowling (born 1965), a British author with a net worth of over $1 billion, continues to rank among the wealthiest and most influential living authors as the creator of the Wizarding World franchise. Hogwarts Legacy, a 2023 video game set in the Wizarding World universe, has already had record-breaking sales.
- Beyoncé (born 1981), an American singer, in February 2023, set the record of most Grammy awards in the ceremony’s history with 32 over her career so far.
- Valentina Shevchenko (born 1988), a Kyrgyzstani and Peruvian professional mixed martial artist, has the record for most title defenses by a woman in UFC history with 7 and reigned as UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion until March 2023 when she was defeated by Alexa Grasso (born 1993) who thereby became the first Mexican woman to win a UFC championship.
You can see music videos for my two favorite songs by Beyoncé on YouTube:
These music videos were released in 2003 and 2008, respectively, but still remain popular over a decade later.
Question for students (and subscribers): What do you think is the greatest accomplishment by a woman in 2023 so far? Please let us know in the comments section below this article.
