    Fascinating Poker Facts to Blow Your Mind

    A Brief History

    Poker is an exciting game with its particular roots from history. This game was developed in the early 19th century in France and the United States. Casino games have a 200-year history with some ups and downs. There are some noticeable developments in this history.

    Development of Poker, Game and the Deck

    This game was started in New Orleans with 20 cards (10-j-Q-K-A). It was played with four hands. As this game reached West America, they started using a 52-card deck. Players were allowed to add extra players in each game to increase the number of hands. In 1937, this deck had a 5th suit and fell out of favor because players were not interested in a new deck.

    The suits of the deck represented the social class status of France. Spades represent the royalty hearts and ruling class. Hearts were representing clergy or church. Clubs represented peasants and lower class. Finally, diamonds became the representatives of the merchant class.

    King in every deck represented the famous historical rulers. Spades represent King David Biblical. The diamonds king indicates Julius Caesar. Charlemagne was a king of hearts. Alexander the great is a king of clubs.

    Famous and Infamous in Poker

    There are several recognizable names in this game. They have adorned the poker tables at casinos, saloons, and backrooms. Initially, Wyatt Earp, Calamity Jane and Doc Holiday were frequent players from America.

    Another regular player for saloon tables was Wild Bill Hickok. He shot dead during a game with all black 8-8-A-A pairs. After this event, ominous moniker’s hand was dead man’s hand. Richard Nixon (former president of America) was a critical poker player. He earned more than $6000 in the initial months of WWII service in the navy of the USA.

    He always claimed for using his poker winning during the war and to fund his campaign to get a seat in the USA congress. There are several entertainment notables, such as athletes to musicians and famous actors associated with poker.

    Series of Poker tournaments also attract Hollywood names, such as Ben Affleck, Nick Cassavetes, Jennifer Tilly and Tobey Maguire. You can’t imagine poker without live events and competitions. Top names in these events are Puggy Pearson, Crandell Addington, Carl Cannon, Johnny Moss, Sailor Roberts, Doyle Brunson, etc.

    Moneymakers in Poker

    Poker tournaments and live events are growing at a steady rate. For this reason, several people find it a potentially grooming place to earn money. Chris Moneymaker managed to outdo an event containing 838 amateur and professional players to win almost $2.5 million.

    Moneymakers of the modern era are taking an interest in this game. They use online poker games and live casino tournaments to make money. Nowadays, people can surpass the restrictions of their countries about gambling through online casinos. In live poker events, players from different parts of the world are allowed to participate.
