I found the health and beauty section to be really interesting. I find it cool that the Egyptians had things like tooth brushes and tooth paste. Who even knew that things like breath mints existed that far back into history. Very interesting article with many fun facts.
I found the construction part very cool, being that they built incredible structures with barely any tools at all.
Although every section was interesting, I found the health and beauty section the most interesting. I was always curious about how ancient cultures were able to make the makeup that they oftentimes wore. I also had no idea that they had toothpaste and toothbrushes.
The way they kept cool was fascinating. It’s amazing how people used to do these inventive things to accomplish something we don’t even really think about today.
We owe much of our modern day technology to the ancient Egyptians as they were essentially the first innovators, able to create things in order to better advance their society and live their every day lifestyles. We owe aspects of our modern languages and writing to the Egyptians as they had their own language and writing style of hieroglyphics. Think about the modern online tool for learning languages known as Rosetta Stone. The Egyptians were even the first inventors of medicine and pharmaceuticals! I know that growing up as a kid I had a sun dial in my back yard, something that the Egyptians invented.
i am extremely interested in ancient Egyptians ! there is so much uncertainty and things we just dont know ! We learned a lot from these amazing people.
The Egyptians created a fenomenal legacy that can be seen in our world. Many cities around the world still have obelisks, architects inspired by the ancient Egyptians created the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas, and the roots of language can be found in the ancient Egyptian speech.
I think it is truly amazing how many things we have today originated so long ago. Things that happened so long long ago shape our world today… I just find it so interesting.
It is interesting to see how something that happened so long ago still has lasting impacts today. Just imagine what kind of set backs would have happened if the Egyptians had not done a lot of what they did.
It was interesting to see how they were the first shipbuilders and that only continued to be enhanced in the centuries to come. Their legacy goes beyond anything else after making many contributions to society.
It’s funny to think about how they used pictures to represent thoughts, words or actions, much like how we have kind of circled back to with the use of emojis.
Fascinating to see that even though this was many years ago, the technology still lives on even today. Ancient History is such a fantastic topic
Wow, I’m glad the Egyptians were so keen on freshening their breath!
The strides of science and technology that the Egyptians made is absolutely remarkable. Even down to everyday hygiene and beauty was focused on in their society. They truly amaze me every time I learn about the complexity of their society given the time period in which it blossomed.
I didn’t realize how much the ancient Egyptian culture influenced our daily lives now. My favorites of their inventions are the water and sun clock. Their calendar reminded me of the Aztec calendar which also had 365 days.
I found it very interesting on the ingredients that went into making Egyptian ink, such as bees wax, vegetable gum, and soot. Water clocks were also very interesting to learn about in this article. I feel it would be very difficult to measure time based on a change in water level.
The amount of organization that the Egyptians had, and how much influence it has on life today is truly astonishing!
Reading things like this makes be think about how lost the average modern human would be living hundreds of years ago. For all the tech we have now, I don’t think many people could reinvent something like a clock.
When I think of the progenitor of modern Western civilization and culture, ancient Greece and Rome tend to come to mind first and foremost. That the Egyptians were so advanced so early in history – in some cases more so than the Romans, in the case of door locks – is worth noting.
All these conveniences are nothing compared to present-day technology, but if we were to travel back in time by over two millennia, Ancient Egypt would be my #1 choice among potential places to live.
It is amazing to see how gifted the Egyptians were back in the day. Without having any technology like today, the Egyptians constructed and designed some of the greatest things we still think of and admire today. Also it is interesting to read about the inventions they came up with including the toothbrush, tooth paste, and make-up.
Ancient Egypt helped our civilization progress to our current state. Without their innovation, its difficult to image where our society would be.
While the Egyptians did a lot of cool things with technology and society, it is important that like everyone they got things wrong. (warning the next stuff is a bit disturbing and is mature content) For example they had a form of contraception made from crocodile waste material that women would use as a vaginal suppository. This was due to Sobek (the goddess of miscarriages) being the patron of crocodiles. So while they made awesome clocks, they also were working with trial and error most of the time. The most important contribution: the domestication of the cat 😀
I knew the Egyptians were advanced but I had no clue they had a lot of the items they did. To me the most interesting part is how a lot of their everyday items and apparel still are around today.
I knew the Egyptians were very far ahead of their time specifically in terms of technology and hygiene but it was shocking how far they really. I can see why their civilization was so long lasting.
I found the invention of the ancient “air conditioner” to be most interesting. It is cool to see how certain inventions such as this have progressed through time.
Those visuals were extremely detailed, I enjoyed it
I feel that society takes the goods that we buy at the store for granted because before our time, everything had to be made from scratch when it came to toothpastes, toothbrushes, etc.
These guys were one of the longest lasting civilizations for a reason, from their medicine to their weapons these guys knew what they were doing
I loved the section where it talked about the health and beauty tools they used. I love that they used wigs, blush, lipstick, and fierce eyeliner. Those are all things that are actively used today in the world of fashion and beauty.
I hate when people talk about Egypt as if they were there. Everything is just a best guess and needs way more interrogation. Stop saying things that just change a few years down the road.
Egyptian ideals are considered myth but according to findings theyre the first creators of beauty products, along with farming, construction, and craftsmanship
I found the formula for the making of paper very interesting.
It is neat to see how Ancient Egyptians lived. They were interested in construction, writing, make up, and many more things just like us! They came up with some very inventive things that helped them out with that. Back then these innovations must of been mind blowing!
That’s one of my favorite parts of history, is trying to imagine what it would have been like, to be alive in these times.
It’s amazing to me how far the Egyptians influence spread, compared to the size of their empire. Thus helping to cause the lasting effects they had in history and even present day.
It is so interesting how modernized the Egyptians really were.
Being a girl who’s really into makeup, it’s really interesting to see what the Egyptians used for makeup! Also, reading about the locks reminds me a little of picking locks on the game Oblivion!
Amazing technology for the time. Much like the Romans, they were ahead of their time.
I find it interesting the Egyptians where the first to domesticate a cat, and its initial purpose at that time was for pest control, which is still a major use for cats today.
It impressed me the most that they invented toothpaste and toothbrushes. When you think of older civilizations, hygiene isn’t the thing that usually comes to mind.
I think it’s amazing that they had so much technology back then that we still use today.
I think the most shocking things on this list were the tooth paste, tooth brush, and breath mints. When you think ancient Egypt, the first thing that pops in your head is not good hygiene.
I like how so much of the technology from so far back still exist now. Who would have known that most of these things would still be around in Morden day
Knew the Egyptians domesticated the cat but I’m surprised at all the technology they had
