A Brief History On February 9, 2018, we at History and Headlines take a moment to ponder the imponderable: Where do all these “National Days” come from? We found all sorts of references to February 9th being National Toothache Day and also National Read in the Bathtub Day, but no record of when or where these “holidays” started! Digging Deeper National Toothache Day is not so ridiculous as to actually celebrate having a toothache, one of the most painful conditions known to humankind (which can also be life threatening), but rather a day to remind people of proper oral hygiene.…

A Brief History On February 1, 1796, the British government changed the capital of Upper Canada from Newark to York. Oddly named to the casual observer, the province of Upper Canada is actually the furthest South of all parts of Canada, and no, it does not have a high elevation, either. Digging Deeper Occupying the central area of British Canada (Canada became independent in 1867, and the French claimed a large portion called New France until after the Seven Years War), Upper Canada was a province that today is the southern part of Ontario, from the 1000 Islands region North…

A Brief History On June 22, 2017, and on every June 22, you (only applies if you are a guy) are commanded to celebrate National Stupid Guy Thing Day. We apparently have idiotic “holidays” such as Sweetest Day, Valentine’s Day, Take Your Kid to Work Day and no end of goofy days. Thank goodness we have today to celebrate the “stupid” (stupid is in the eye of the beholder, and with guys, sometimes it really is in the eye!) things guys do or allegedly do that somebody thinks women and girls do not (normally) do. Digging Deeper Unfortunately, I could…

A Brief History On April 1, 2017, news station EFKA reported that Chelsea Clinton was actually the love child of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.  For mutual reasons, this alternative fact has been kept secret all these years, until now! Digging Deeper Reporters have cited “anonymous” sources that Vladimir Putin has turned this information into blackmail, forcing President Trump to greatly increase taxes on those with annual incomes above $200,000, doubling the top rate, and ending all Federal Income Tax on people with less than $200,000 of income! It is also reported by an unnamed source that read on the…

A Brief History On March 23, 2013, Angelenos were shocked and then amused by a surprising bit of skywriting authored by pilot and comedian Kurt Braunohler.  Skywriting has been used since either 1915 or 1919, as its origins are disputed.  Used for advertising or personal messages, Kurt Braunohler found a new use for the venerable media. Digging Deeper Born in 1976 in New Jersey, Braunohler became a comedian first performing in street shows (Kurtbot) and moving on to working with notable other comedians (many familiar faces from Comedy Central and The Daily Show) with the Neutrino Video Project and Hot…
