A Brief History
On January 6, 2021, a throng of supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol in response to claims by Trump and his allies that the 2020 US Presidential election was “stolen” from Trump in favor of Joe Biden. Five people allegedly died in conjunction with the riot, disturbance, or demonstration, as you prefer to call the incident, and 138 police officers were reportedly injured along with possibly scores of other people.
Digging Deeper
Called a rebellion, a coup, an insurrection, or a riot by the Left, Right wing Americans called the melee a righteous response to alleged election fraud. The nation and the world watched live TV as mobs broke through police lines and into the Capitol, desecrating many offices and other rooms resulting in about $30 million in damage.
Over 1,100 rioters have been charged with crimes and nearly 400 have gotten jail time. Donald Trump and other conspirators are facing felony charges related to the January 6 incident.
Regarding this incident and whether or not it will be covered on the History and Headlines YouTube channel, Dr. Zar writes, “The incidents that occurred at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021 have sparked ongoing discussion and debate about what exactly happened and why to the point that legal actions concerning these events are still ongoing and may have consequences for the 2024 US Presidential Election. I expect that many of my channel’s viewers have already been deluged by opinions from the media and politicians regarding what happened on that day and surely you have seen various polarizing opinions expressed on social media. For my part, I primarily just want to tell you about fascinating long past historic events on my channel without trying to persuade you of my personal opinions about current events.”
